Shape_description | Palmette. Rounded rim on a concave lip, above shallow bowl; just below lip are attached two round horizontal handles, rectangular in shape, canted and slightly incurved, rising to just below the height of the rim. A short stem, slightly concave, attaches the bowl to a thick disk foot, with a groove at the outer edge of the vertical surface; broad, convex resting surface; hollowed through the middle of the stem. |

Decoration | Decorated in black glaze except: narrow reserved band on interior, just within rim; tondo, reserved except for two concentric black circles at the centre; reserved interior of handles and handle zones; decorative frieze comprised of palmettes above chain, on both sides; narrow reserved band in lower part of bowl; reserved resting surface and interior of stem. Added white dots superposed on chain, at the centre of each link. Misfiring has rendered the lower part of the bowl, stem, and foot on one side streaky red. |

Condition | Comprised of 20 or more rejoined fragments, with some plaster additions (overpainted) at handle joins. Parts of the black glaze pitted on the interior; surface scratched and worn, especially on rim; grayish-white deposits and dark brown stains on interior. |

Comparanda | The palmettes above the chain are reminiscent of palmette-lotus above chain bands on black figure lekythoi, except that between each five-leaf palmette is a single frond (lotus petal?). Cf. E. Vanderpool, The rectangular rock-cut shaft. The upper fill, Hesperia 15 (1946) pl. 62, no. 219. Several such kylikes were found at Corinth; cf. T3162 from North Cemetery grave 262: Corinth 13, pl. 36. |
