Kantharos

Shape_description

Strongly moulded rim, curving into a roughly cylindrical upper body that bulges out into the shallow bowl. Two vertical handles, roughly square in section, with horizontal pointed spurs, level with the rim, rejoin the body at the upper part of the bowl. Two-part moulded foot, with a domed underside.

Decoration

Black glazed except for reserved and reddened groove between two mouldings on exterior of foot and reserved groove on resting surface. Interior decorated with four stamped palmettes, crosswise, within two rings of vertical lines.

Glaze worn on interior and on rim. A few small chips in rim.
