Shape_description Pyxis: Flanged rim widening to sharply curved shoulder, rounded below, and tapering to a flat base; round horizontal handles on either side pressed up against rim to form lugs. Lid: cylindrical knob attached to a disk.

Decoration Pyxis: Black band on lip and at top of handles, black rays (between handles) on shoulder; broad black band between lines, carelessly applied, at widest part; narrower black band below. Lid: Black on vertical part of knob and concentric band on lid, around knob.

Condition Two small chips around rim and base; areas of decoration eroded.

Comparanda Slenderer and taller than Lipari 10, pl. C.XXIV (tomb 2453 from excavations in ‘Proprietà D’alia, 1986) and with a flatter top than Lipari 2, pl. g4 (from tomb 115). Cf. pyxides of similar shape (slightly different decoration) but no handles: Lentini inv. 61579/A and 61579/B (S. Lagona, La Collezione Santapaola nel Museo Archeologico di Lentini [Catania 1973] nos. 175-65, pl. 31).
