Ionian Cup

Shape_description

Small cup with rounded rim on a flaring lip that sharply joins a shallow bowl with bulging profile; two horizontal round handles, canted up, join at the broadest part of the bowl. The bowl has almost no stem but attaches directly to a raised ring base with diagonal profile, slightly convex resting surface, and slightly pointed underside.

Decoration

Thinly applied black glaze on interior, handles, and lower part of bowl, as well as a narrow band at the bottom of the lip, and the exterior surface of the foot.

Inscriptions

Condition

Comprised of ten or more rejoined fragments, missing only slight chips from the joins; stained, with iridescence on interior and exterior surfaces and adhesions, especially on the base.
